  2. If I'm right, I'm simplifying greatly, but I think it was a cyclical thing. A 5000+ year calendar that was the first cycle is ending.

  5. Oh the holiday that costs so much money. And we don't buy big gifts even! Gah, it just does sort of take much of the fun out of observing The Day (by which of course I mean Solstice).

    You got it right. It's definitely cyclical, like a car's odometer.
