why me?

I recently gave up my smart phone because I don't want to continue paying the data fees when I only use it for regular cell phone things and as a kindle. I can buy a kindle cheaper than those fees. And, in fact I'm ordering one tomorrow.

One of the things I want to do with my phone is take pics and upload them onto the computer. I can take pics. I was told uploading was simple because the charger has a usb port.

Guess what - not simple.

I will not go back but I do wonder -

Am I too dumb to have a dumb phone?

  1. Wish I could help you out, but I only have a dumb phone. I can take pictures with it, but I have no idea how to get them off the phone.

  2. I have a dumb phone and I just e-mail them to myself, upload onto computer and then I can do anything with them.

It's a Verizon phone that opens and has a keyboard inside. Where you would type in a phone number I type my e-mail address. It re-sizes the pictures and sends them. I work in a fabric store, and I constantly show women how to send a picture of a fabric they like to someone.

I have the best of both worlds- at work I look like the computer guru, and at home all my kids tell me what a dinosaur I am.

    1. @Linda G - I'm with you. I refuse to pay those monthly data fees anymore when access to the internet is painfully slow and I only use it for kindle reading. Cheaper to buy myself a kindle.

@Belle Betty - Hey thanks for commenting! I'll try the email thing. My phone is also one that opens and has a keyboard inside.

  3. I was going to suggest e-mailing yourself the photos, but it sounds like that's a useful and functioning idea for many of us!

Of course we don't have the fancy-pants phones, so let's just rename the ones we DO have.
    Not dumb, just user-friendlier.

    1. I am happy to not be paying the data fee that I never made good use of but my phone is definitely not user-friendlier than my smart phone was.
      I'll learn, though.

  4. Thanks for saying that. Especially considering I think of you as tech savvy.
