New author (for me) discovery: Ann Hillerman

Author Tony Hillerman died in 2008. He was author of a series of books featuring Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn and Police Officer Jim Chee.

The books take place in the 4 Corners area. There are southwestern settings and much about Navajo and other tribes and their customs.

I haven't read them. A 3 episode series called Skinwalkers: the Navajo Mysteries is available on netflix. I greatly enjoyed them.

When Tony Hillerman died his daughter Anne Hillerman (who had previous journalistic writing experience) took over the book series.

She did this in a very clever way. She does not attempt to write as Leaphorn or Chee. She created a female character, Bernadette Manuelito, who is a police officer married to Jim Chee.

I just finished Spider Woman's Daughter. Good writing - good reading.

I will be reading Rock With Wings, Song of the Lion and Cave of Bones.

It is so nice to be back in the land of Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee and now Bernie Manuelito.

Orange Beach, AL vacation pics

Just got in from vacation.

We went to Orange Beach, AL which turns out to be beautiful.

Everyone had fun at the beach.

Four Winds condo was wonderful.

Found an arcade that the kids enjoyed. Jayden played PacMan.

Katyna beat her dad at air hockey.

We had a delicious Carribean meal at Sassy Bass.

We had fun at The Wharf.

Ruthie got her shopping in.

I got my coffeeshopping in at Southern Grind.

On the way out of town we stopped at Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts. Not on my food plan but everyone else loved it.

We spent a couple of days in Birmingham. The highlight of that was the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Kat loved it there.

She also loved the Naked Art Gallery.

Jay loved the Top Games video game store. I didn't get a pic of that, though.

All in all it was a really fun vacation.

Didn't want to come home.

Can't wait to go again.

A Wrinkle In Time was good - pretty costumes and scenery - nice story line - not sure how well it stuck to story line cause I haven't read it in a long time - popcorn and soda (for grandkids) was more expensive than I (or they) were willing to pay. Ridiculous.

Recently signed up for a twitter account so that I could follow Bob Harper. Either I am doing it wrong or he doesn't tweet often or much about fitness.

Still on an Amanda Quick re-read phase. Currently reading the 2 Lantern Street Lady books.

Okay - enough chair sitting time. Off here for today!

What am I reading?
Still in a re-reading phase but I've switched authors - Amanda Quick (JAK)

Read through her: Arcane Society series
                              Lavinia and Tobias trilogy (favorite)
                              Vanza trilogy (another favorite)

Currently reading:Otherwise Engaged (stand alone romantic suspense)

Amanda Quick has a new book coming out 5/8/2018 The Other Lady Vanishes - it follows her 2/28/2018 release of The Girl Who Knew Too Much back to 1930's California.

What am I doing besides reading?

Doctor visits revealed advanced osteo arthritis in my knee. I got a steroid shot - wonderful. I asked the handsome, funny doctor if I could avoid total knee surgery if I lost enough weight - and he said yes. Sooooo I'm getting ready to start Bob Harper's Supercarb diet.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST - MY GRANDKIDS AND I ARE GOING TO SEE - A WRINKLE IN TIME - tomorrow.

I trust y'all are happy and healthy and keeping busy.

Cactus and good reads

I have had these 2 cactus for a while and they needed a home. I am re-reading a triology by Nora Roberts that takes place in a nursery and it encouraged me to take care of these cacus characters.

Blue Dahlia
Black Rose
Red Lily

Really good reads!

This is

a banner year.

When it is over I will say:

Today I am 50 pounds lighter than I was this time last year.

And that, y'all, is the cognitive consonance way to make a resolution.

Happy happy everyone.
